Renewing our annual love affair with cars

At long last it’s Spring!

Rob Alfers, Publisher, Auto Atlantic Magazine

The demise of winter in Atlantic Canada surely warms the blood of thousands of automotive enthusiasts ready to see the end of an unusually tough winter. No more scraping ice from our windshield, removing mountains of snow, and driving on treacherous roads. It’s time to turn our thoughts to another summer of enjoying the mobility and pleasure our automobiles provide. To be sure, there are additional challenges to be faced this year. We’re seeing record high prices at the pump, and our roads are in desperate need of massive repair and upgrading. Nonetheless, the promise of great weather ahead still generates excitement with those who love the automobile.

In this issue, we take a look at some of the upcoming events scheduled for die-hard racing fans and other automotive buffs. Victoria Day weekend will see the start of many exciting raceway events including the  Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship at Mosport International Raceway in Toronto. May 24 will also see the start of the 2008 Maritime Pro Stock Tour Schedule at Scotia Speedworld in Halifax. Scotia Speedworld and the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour have recently appointed stock car racing enthusiast Ron Clarke as their new General Manager and are promising another great season.

Local stock car racing fans are counting the days for September 20 when the 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series comes to the Riverside International Speedway in Antigonish.
And one of the most exciting automotive racing events in North America takes place in Newfoundland when the world class 2008 Targa Newfoundland winds its way over 2200 km. of eastern and central Newfoundland roads during Sept. 13 to 20.

Finally, our contributing writer Jay Lerue can hardly contain his excitement since joining the Nova Scotia Mustang Club and its promise of a great summer ahead with other Mustang lovers.
