The Parts Depot award is presented annually to the manufacturer supplier that best applies modern category management strategies to address the evolving needs of professional and do-it-yourself customers. Has the business world’s newest and greatest asset run away without you? It’s time to catch up! Technology and computers have become an invaluable and essential tool in the automotive industry and have increased efficiency immensely for those smart enough to take advantage. Gone are the days of flipping through pages upon pages for specific car models or engine rods, and don’t forget the ever-famous paper cut! Thankfully now, all it takes is a ‘keyword’ and everything you are looking for appears before your eyes; your valuable time is spared, your customer’s time is spared and they return loyally, time and time again.

A service station no longer has to keep inch-thick customer files barricaded in filing cabinets until they are ‘chosen’ once again. No more day-long searches ending in lost files and aggravated customers, no more searching for parts in mile-high stacks. It’s as simple as creating a database to store all the information you could ever need regarding products, customers, inventory or anything else you might frequently use. Although they have been sold very successfully in other countries, patent problems delayed their introduction in North America.


Clear paint repairs scratches

Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., has developed the world’s first clear paint that repairs scratches on painted car surfaces, including scratches from car-washing machines, off-road driving and fingernails. “Scratch Guard Coat” contains a newly developed high elastic resin that helps prevent scratches from affecting the inner layers of a car’s painted surface.

With “Scratch Guard Coat,” a car’s scratched surface will return to its original state anywhere from one day to a week, depending on temperature and the depth of the scratch. The water-repellant paint also has a higher resistance to scratches compared with conventional clear paints. A vehicle painted with “Scratch Guard Coat” will have only one-fifth the abrasions caused by a car-washing machine compared with a car covered with conventional clear paint.

Scratches from car-washing machines account for the majority of scratches to painted car surfaces. “Scratch Guard Coat” is effective for about three years. “Scratch Guard Coat” will be applied for the first time on an SUV model that is scheduled for a partial makeover in the near future. The paint will be applied to the car’s chassis, bumpers, door mirrors and front under mirrors.

PEI Learning Centre linked

Access to the new PEI (Petroleum Equipment Institute) Learning Centre with on-line courses for Service Station Operators is now available through a link at the very bottom of National Energy Equipment’s home page.

The courses are designed specifically for service station managers and operators who want to learn and appreciate the most important aspects of their petroleum system. They are practical and demonstrative vs. highly technical and therefore well suited for quick and easy learning.

There are several courses to choose from which cover piping systems; tank monitoring and leak detection; and overfill and spill containment. Because there are choices for single wall tank and/or single wall piping systems, you should know that for most jurisdictions in Canada only the DOUBLEWALL PIPING and DOUBLEWALL TANK courses are applicable. These on-line courses are $92 ($79 USD) and take about 1 hour to complete.
