Take your employees to the next level!
Do you know someone who has difficulty reading automotive manuals, could use a refresher course on vehicle measurements, or would like to learn how to handle a difficult customer with improved skill? The NS Automotive Sector Council has identified an opportunity for employers to partner with the Department of Education to introduce customized, on-site training for your employees on literacy, communications, teamwork and more!
The nine essential skills are skills everyone needs for work, learning and everyday life. You use them when you read a newspaper, use a map or pay a bill. People working in automotive repair and service occupations routinely use some or all of these skills when carrying out tasks such as listening for job assignments, diagnosing problems, reading manuals or calculating measurements. Today’s smart business understands the importance of developing their employees, providing soft-skill training and improving job satisfaction. Your result: lower turnover, improved customer relations and increased productivity!
Consider this:
- 62 % of Nova Scotian’s have difficulty reading and writing;
- A large majority of Nova Scotia’s automotive workforce did not complete their High School Diploma;
- With an increasing amount of technical training available, many employees may need to improve their essential skills, to better retain technical terms.
